I somehow got nominated to go work on a girlfreinds sons truck
(I guess when your unemployed everyone thinks you have time to haybale their shit together)

so he's got a 85pu with the 22r thats he's gotten HOT and some how they think the head gaskets went I'm hopeing not. so if thats the case, and I need to replace the head they have a some what running 20r. if the 85 22r is nont a laser cut block, I understand that the 20r head will go on right/wrong?
with running the 20r head whats that do for the power does it increase bottom end or top end power? or nothing at all

strait up! if it was mine and I was making the money call I'd scrap the whole show and start new

from what I've read, when people build their 2XR motors, they do a 20R head and a 22R block. I _think_ it raises compression, so power increase should be seen throughout the powerband.

20r heads had better flow.

Timing chain stuff will be different. Will need to research that before you dive into the swap. I think for sure a new timing chain cover...and there is something different about the block height, head height combo. so the 22R chain doesnt work with the 20r head?

Look into it more. I can't find the write up at the moment.

where are you located at?

port the snot outta the head.
otherwise, not much gain.
Bigger valves and serious port work are the way to go.

Yes the 20r head will fill the cylinders more completely but it isn't as efficient as a 22R head thats why they developed it. I always thought it had to be a pre 85 22R block though because they changed the deck height.

Its not so much steering clear, its just having the correct parts for the project.

It has been done before, but the power gains are not so remarkable that people are creaming their seats. The head combined with a good cam and such can make great power.

Its just... knowing what can be done and what can't. The research has all been done, its just time to read it all and see what you would be willing to do!!

Glad ya found an easy route!
